have to have a Hugo spritz

Move over Aperol spritz, here comes the Hugo (in Europe do not pronounce the ‘H” and say “Ugo”).

By now, the Italian Spritz is found on menus across the world with brightly orange colored Aperol mixed with Prosecco, a splash of soda and a luscious orange slice.

Though the Hugo is not as colorful, it is definitely as refreshing, if not more so.  My friends introduced me to the drink over a summer, saying time to replace “Lo Spritz” and move onto the “Ugo” because it’s just plain cool.

Ingredients

Directions

1
Done

You can make the drink either in individual glasses, or using the same portions as below, in a large pitcher which works well for a group of people.

2
Done

Add about 3/4 cup ice into a large high ball glass, or large round wine glass.

3
Done

Gently pour Prosecco over ice, about two-thirds way of the glass.

4
Done

Add the Elderflower cordial, just shy of one-third of the glass.

5
Done

Add a splash of sparkling water, at least 5 leaves of mint, and a squeeze of lime (one large wedge).

6
Done

Garnish with a slice of lime, cut into a round wheel, and place either on side of glass or inside.

7
Done

You can also make a non-alcoholic version by doing half Elderflower cordial and half sparkling water, and then add the rest of the ingredients (excluding Prosecco). Yum!

Perfect drink pitcher
I love this simple water pitcher from Villeroy & Boch. It is a great size for water or even to make your Hugo or Aperol sprtiz.
