Who doesn’t love garlic bread?  Somehow it works just as well with a plate of spaghetti or a big bowl of soup….or anything.  Make sure you select a fresh Italian or French loaf that has plenty of white, doughy inside to smother with butter and olive oil mixture.

You can make the recipe with all butter by substituting the olive oil with another 2 tablespoons of butter.  If you just use olive oil it is still delicious but does not caramelize the same way, and the flavor is not as rich.

Ingredients

Recipe serves: 4
1 16- ounce loaf of Italian bread or French bread
4 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
3-4 tablespoons olive oil
2 large cloves of garlic smashed and chopped, or you can use garlic powder but not as good
sprinkle of salt

tablespoon finely chopped parsley or basil

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Cut the bread in half, horizontally.

Mix the butter, olive oil, and garlic (optional add parsley or basil) in a small bowl. Spread butter mixture over the the two bread halves.

Place on a baking pan and heat in the oven for 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven.

If you want more brown around edges, set oven to broil, and toast for 2-3 minutes watching it the entire time!

Cut into 2 inch slices. Serve immediately.
